Already Have Hearing Aids? Levine Hearing Can Help.
BOOK MY HEARING AID REPAIR ASSESSMENT
CALL LEVINE HEARING: (704) 540-3081
Whether your hearing aids need a simple repair, haven’t been working as well as they used to, or you recently moved to Charlotte and need a new hearing care provider, you do not have to start over.
At Levine Hearing in Charlotte, NC, we repair, clean, troubleshoot and reprogram hearing aids from all major manufacturers—even when they were purchased somewhere else.
In fact, we adopt new patients with existing hearing aids all the time.
Maybe you recently moved to Charlotte. Maybe your previous provider retired. Maybe you’re no longer happy with the care you’re receiving. Or maybe your hearing aids work, but you’ve always wondered whether they could be working better.
That’s exactly why we created our:
Complimentary Hearing Aid Second Look

Let us take a fresh look at your hearing and your current hearing aids—at no charge and with no obligation to transfer your care.
New to Charlotte? Bring Your Hearing Aids With You.
Charlotte welcomes thousands of new residents every year, and one of the questions we hear regularly is:
“I already have hearing aids. Will you take me as a patient even though I bought them somewhere else?”
Absolutely.
At Levine Hearing, we call this adopting a patient.
You may have had a wonderful hearing care provider in another city and simply need someone local to continue your care. You may have moved from another part of North Carolina or from across the country. You may even have purchased your hearing aids through a large retailer, franchise, insurance program or another Charlotte-area practice.
Where you purchased your hearing aids doesn’t determine whether you’re welcome at Levine Hearing.
Our first goal is simply to determine:
How well are you hearing today, how well are your current hearing aids performing, and is there anything we could do to make them work better for you?
You don’t need to commit to anything before we answer those questions.
That’s what the Levine Hearing Second Look is designed to do.

What Is a Complimentary Hearing Aid “Second Look”?
If you already own hearing aids that were purchased somewhere else, your first step at Levine Hearing can be a complimentary Second Look.
There is no requirement to purchase new hearing aids from us.
There is no requirement to enroll in an ongoing service plan.
And there is no requirement to transfer your hearing aid care to Levine Hearing afterward.
We simply want to understand what you’re currently working with and give you an expert opinion.
During Your Second Look, We Can:
1. Test Your Current Hearing
Hearing changes over time.
If your hearing aids were programmed several years ago—or even relatively recently—the settings inside the devices may no longer accurately reflect the hearing you have today.
We start by evaluating your hearing so that we aren’t guessing about what your devices need to accomplish.
2. Evaluate Your Current Hearing Aids
We’ll identify your hearing aid manufacturer and model, look at the physical condition of your devices and assess how they’re functioning.
3. Run Hearing Aid Diagnostics
A hearing aid can turn on and produce sound without necessarily performing the way it should.
Diagnostic testing can help us determine whether the components of the hearing aid are functioning appropriately and whether repair or maintenance may be needed.
4. Look at the Entire Hearing Picture
At Levine Hearing, we don’t believe hearing care is simply about making a hearing aid louder.
We consider your hearing test, your speech understanding, your listening needs, your current technology and the way you’re actually functioning in everyday environments.
5. Give You Our Recommendations
Then we’ll tell you what we see.
Your current hearing aids may be working beautifully.
They may simply need maintenance.
They may need to be reprogrammed.
They may require a repair or replacement component.
They may benefit from a more comprehensive refitting and verification process.
Or there may be limitations in the technology that are worth understanding.
The Second Look itself is complimentary.
Once you know what we recommend, you decide whether you want Levine Hearing to adopt your hearing aids and make those changes.
We Work With All Major Hearing Aid Brands
One of the things that makes Levine Hearing different is that we are an independent hearing care practice.
We are not owned by a hearing aid manufacturer and we are not required to fit one particular brand.
That means our providers have experience working across the hearing aid industry rather than looking at every patient through the lens of one manufacturer.
We service, repair, evaluate and, when programming access permits, reprogram hearing aids from major manufacturers including:
- Phonak
- Oticon
- Starkey
- ReSound
- Widex
- Signia
- Unitron
- Rexton
- Beltone
- Audibel
- NuEar
- Bernafon
- Sonic
- Philips HearLink
- Jabra Enhance
- Miracle-Ear
- Kirkland Signature
- Siemens and legacy Signia products
- MicroTech
- and many additional current and legacy hearing aid models
Have a Brand That Isn’t Listed?
Call us.
Even when proprietary software prevents us from reprogramming a particular device, we can evaluate and clean hearing aids from all brands and help determine what repair or service options are available.
If we can help, we’ll tell you. If there’s a limitation with your particular device, we’ll tell you that too.
That transparency is an important part of the way we practice.
Hearing Aid Repair in Charlotte
Sometimes the problem really is the hearing aid.
A device may suddenly stop producing sound, become intermittent, sound weak, fail to charge or develop a physical problem.
Many hearing aid issues can be diagnosed in our Charlotte office.
Common Hearing Aid Problems We Evaluate
Patients come to Levine Hearing for problems including:
- Hearing aid won’t turn on
- No sound from one hearing aid
- Hearing aid sounds weak
- Sound is muffled or distorted
- Hearing aid cuts in and out
- Excessive feedback or whistling
- Hearing aid isn’t charging
- Rechargeable hearing aid battery doesn’t last as long
- Broken receiver or speaker
- Broken tubing
- Broken battery door
- Microphone problems
- Clogged wax guard or filter
- Damaged earmold
- Hearing aid feels uncomfortable
- Bluetooth isn’t connecting
- Hearing aids won’t connect to a smartphone
- Streaming no longer works correctly
- One hearing aid sounds different from the other
- Hearing aids seem less effective than they used to
Some repairs or maintenance can be completed in the office.
When a hearing aid requires more extensive electronic repair, we can help determine whether manufacturer or repair-lab service is appropriate and review the options with you before proceeding.
Does Your Hearing Aid Need Repair—or Does It Need Better Programming?
This is where hearing aid care becomes more complicated.
A hearing aid can be technically functioning and still not be helping someone hear as well as it should.
We frequently meet people who say:
“My hearing aids work. I just still can’t understand people.”
Or:
“I hear better with them, but restaurants are impossible.”
Or:
“They’ve never sounded quite right.”
That may not be a repair issue at all.
It could be related to changes in your hearing, the prescription inside the hearing aids, the physical fit of the device, the acoustic coupling to your ear, the hearing aid’s features or how the devices were originally programmed.
That’s why Levine Hearing looks at more than the hearing aid itself.
The Ear-Brain Connection Matters
At Levine Hearing, our philosophy of care centers around the Ear-Brain Connection.
The ears collect sound, but ultimately it is the brain that has to interpret that sound and turn it into meaningful communication.
That distinction matters when we’re evaluating hearing aids.
The goal isn’t merely:
“Can we make this hearing aid produce sound?”
The better question is:
“Is this hearing aid providing the right information to help this person’s brain understand speech as clearly and comfortably as possible?”
Madison Levine, founder of Levine Hearing and a second-generation hearing care professional, has spoken nationally about hearing healthcare and presented her TEDx talk on The Ear-Brain Connection.
That philosophy has become a central part of the way we approach hearing care in our Charlotte clinic.
When we evaluate an existing pair of hearing aids, we aren’t interested only in whether they turn on.
We’re interested in how well they’re supporting you.

Your Hearing Aids Are Only One Part of Better Hearing
Technology matters.
But even an excellent hearing aid can perform poorly when it has not been appropriately selected, fit, programmed and verified.
That’s why our approach to adopting an existing hearing aid patient may include looking at:
- Your current hearing levels
- Speech understanding
- How you perform in more difficult listening environments
- Physical fit and comfort
- Hearing aid output
- Programming
- Device function
- Your personal listening goals
- How old the technology is
- Whether the current technology is still appropriate
- Whether additional verification is recommended
- Whether repair makes financial sense
- Whether you would benefit from a complete refitting
Sometimes relatively small adjustments make a meaningful difference.
Other times, a more comprehensive process is appropriate.
We’ll explain the difference.
Already Own Hearing Aids? You Have Options.
A Second Look does not automatically enroll you in anything.
After we evaluate your hearing and hearing aids and make our recommendations, the choice is yours.
Depending on what your devices need, Levine Hearing offers different ways to establish ongoing care for hearing aids purchased elsewhere.
Option 1: Repair or Individual Services
Some patients simply need a specific repair, cleaning, receiver replacement, adjustment or other individual service.
If ongoing care isn’t what you need, that’s okay.
We can explain the appropriate service and associated cost before proceeding.
Option 2: Adopt Your Existing Hearing Aids
If your devices are appropriate for you but need more comprehensive work, you may choose to have Levine Hearing adopt them.
This can include the professional time required to make recommended programming changes, properly refit the devices and help you transition your hearing care to our Charlotte team.
The exact recommendation depends on your hearing aids, your hearing and the work required.
Option 3: Ongoing Hearing Aid Care
Some patients want more than a one-time adjustment.
If you’re looking for a long-term hearing provider in Charlotte, ask us about our ongoing service and adoption plan options.
These plans are designed for people who want Levine Hearing to become their hearing care home even though their hearing aids were originally purchased somewhere else.
You don’t have to buy another pair of hearing aids just to have a hearing professional who knows you and your hearing.
We Adopt Patients Who Move to Charlotte All the Time
If you’re searching Google because you moved to Charlotte and typed something like:
“Who can service my hearing aids near me?”
“New hearing aid provider after moving to Charlotte”
“Hearing aid repair Charlotte NC”
“Can another audiologist program my hearing aids?”
“Where can I get Phonak hearing aids adjusted in Charlotte?”
“Who services Oticon hearing aids in Charlotte?”
“Can someone repair hearing aids I bought somewhere else?”
“Hearing aid transfer care Charlotte”
You’ve found exactly the kind of practice you’re looking for.
We routinely meet patients moving into Charlotte, SouthPark, Ballantyne, Myers Park, Matthews, Weddington, Marvin, Pineville, Indian Land and surrounding communities.
Some have been wearing hearing aids for twenty years.
Some purchased their first pair six months ago.
Some loved their previous provider and are simply looking for someone new because they relocated.
Others come to us because they want a different approach.
All of them are welcome.
What If I Bought My Hearing Aids Somewhere Else in Charlotte?
You’re welcome too.
The Second Look isn’t only for people moving to Charlotte.
If you currently live in the area but purchased hearing aids from another audiology office, hearing aid store, franchise, online company, insurance provider or retail clinic, we are happy to evaluate them.
You do not need permission from your former provider to ask for another professional opinion.
And requesting a Second Look doesn’t obligate you to leave your current practice.
We’ll test your hearing, evaluate the technology and explain what we would recommend.
What you do with that information is entirely up to you.
What If My Hearing Aids Are Several Years Old?
Bring them.
Age alone doesn’t tell us whether a hearing aid should be repaired, reprogrammed or replaced.
We consider:
- The age of the devices
- Their physical condition
- Whether replacement components are still available
- Current manufacturer support
- Your current hearing loss
- The technology’s capabilities
- How well you’re currently functioning with them
- The cost of repair
- Your hearing and communication goals
If the hearing aids are still appropriate and performing well, we’re happy to work with what you already own.
If we believe there is a reason to consider something different, we’ll explain why.
Do I Need New Hearing Aids?
Not necessarily.
In fact, the purpose of the complimentary Second Look is to evaluate what you already own before you make that decision.
We don’t believe that every person who walks through the door with an older or externally purchased hearing aid automatically needs another pair.
Sometimes the answer is cleaning.
Sometimes it’s repair.
Sometimes it’s reprogramming.
Sometimes it’s a full refitting.
And yes, sometimes technology has reached a point where replacing it makes more sense.
Our job is to help you understand the difference.
Why Levine Hearing?
Independent and Family-Owned
Levine Hearing was founded in Charlotte in 2015 by Madison Levine, a second-generation hearing care professional who grew up watching her mother care for hearing aid patients in her own independent practice.
That history still influences the way Levine Hearing operates today.
We want patients to feel cared for as individuals—not moved through an assembly line.
We Work Across Hearing Aid Brands
Our independence gives us access to technology across the major hearing aid manufacturers.
That matters whether you’re purchasing hearing aids for the first time or walking through our doors with a pair you already own.
We Look Beyond the Device
Our focus on the Ear-Brain Connection means we’re interested in the entire hearing system and how hearing affects communication—not simply whether a hearing aid is producing sound.
We Follow Best-Practice Hearing Care
When adjustments or refitting are appropriate, our goal is to use objective information and verification rather than relying solely on whether something “sounds louder.”
We Welcome Transfer Patients
We don’t expect you to buy your hearing aids from Levine Hearing before we’re willing to help you.
If you need a new hearing provider, we would love the opportunity to earn that relationship.
Watch: What Is a Hearing Aid Second Look?
Not sure whether your hearing aids are working as well as they could?

Frequently Asked Questions About Hearing Aid Repairs & Transfer Care
Can Levine Hearing repair hearing aids purchased somewhere else?
Yes. We repair and service hearing aids that were purchased at other clinics, retail locations and hearing aid practices. You do not need to have purchased your hearing aids from Levine Hearing.
I just moved to Charlotte. Can Levine Hearing become my new hearing aid provider?
Yes. We adopt patients who move to Charlotte all the time. Start with a complimentary Second Look so we can test your hearing, evaluate your current devices and explain any recommendations. Then you can decide whether you would like Levine Hearing to take over your ongoing hearing aid care.
What does a complimentary Second Look cost?
Nothing. The Second Look is complimentary.
We test your hearing, evaluate your existing hearing aids, run appropriate diagnostics and explain our recommendations at no charge. If you decide you would like us to make adjustments, repair the devices or adopt your hearing aids for ongoing care, we’ll explain the applicable service options and fees before anything is performed.
Do I have to transfer my hearing aid care after a Second Look?
No.
The Second Look is designed to give you information. It is completely up to you whether you would like Levine Hearing to perform the recommended changes or become your ongoing hearing provider.

What should I bring if I’m transferring my hearing care?
Bring your hearing aids, charger or batteries and any accessories you regularly use. If you have a previous hearing test or information about your devices, you’re welcome to bring those too—but don’t worry if you don’t have your old records. We can start with what you have.
You Don’t Have to Start Over When You Move.
Your hearing aids already know your ears.
Now you just need a hearing care team who can get to know you.
